Jewellery Care Guide

Your Guide to Preserving Luxury

At Steven James Jewellers, each creation is a celebration of precision, artistry, and enduring beauty. To protect your treasured pieces and keep them looking their finest, we recommend the following care practices.

Everyday Jewellery Care

  • Last on, first off: Apply your jewellery after cosmetics, perfume, lotion, and hair products to avoid residue buildup.
  • Remove for physical activity: Jewellery should be removed before sleeping, exercising, swimming, or cleaning to prevent damage, loss, or exposure to harsh chemicals.
  • Avoid household chemicals: Bleach, chlorine, acetone, and even everyday soaps can damage metals and gemstones.

Cleaning at Home

  • Use a soft, dry cloth to gently polish your jewellery after each wear.
  • For a deeper clean (excluding pearls and porous stones), use warm water with a few drops of gentle soap. Gently brush with a soft toothbrush, rinse thoroughly, and dry with a lint-free cloth.
  • Avoid ultrasonic or steam cleaners unless advised by our team, as some gemstones are sensitive to heat and vibration.

Professional Cleaning & Maintenance

  • To keep your jewellery looking as brilliant as the day you received it, we recommend:
  • Annual cleaning and inspection: Our in-house jewellers can check for loose stones, worn claws, or metal fatigue.
  • Rhodium plating for white gold: This service restores the bright white finish and is available in our workshop.
  • Repolishing & repairs: As we handle all work in-house, we ensure the highest standard of craftsmanship for polishing, resizing, and repairs.

Storage

  • Store pieces individually in soft pouches or lined compartments to prevent scratching or tangling.
  • Keep jewellery in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight and humidity.
  • Do not store your fine jewellery in unlined boxes or fabric that may contain traces of sulfur or moisture.
